Wight provided Phase III construction engineering services for a 14.6-mile-long resurfacing project on I-55 from Weber Road to Willow Springs Road. The improvements included pavement patching, bridge deck repairs, replacement of the existing asphalt surface with a polymerized hot-mix asphalt, and installation of a fiber-optic infrastructure.

The project included tree removal, selective clearing, and vegetation management on I-55. The invasive plant species were removed and weeds were sprayed with weed control chemicals. The areas requiring selective clearing and weed control were initially identified, and their location data was collected, using a GPS. The areas were measured and their size was computed using the data collected from the GPS in lieu of conventional measuring practices.

Upon completion of selective clearing of invasive plant species at various locations along I-55, it was determined that the existing native plants had been choked out by the invasive species; therefore, the selective clearing areas were re-established with native plantings.
