Wight was commissioned by Elmhurst College to provide architecture and engineering services to the College for improving the adequacy of their Fine Arts facilities. The design, differing from the traditional architectural design of the rest of the College, broadcasts the school’s vibrant arts community to the Elmhurst community, commuter railroad, and broader campus.
One of the College’s goals for this campus is that of environmentally-responsible development. To that end, the project is designed with “green” principles including vegetated roofs for cleaner rainwater and energy efficient buildings, permeable pavements to allow ground-filtering and absorption, and many others.
