The Edgewood Middle School renovation embraces learning, inclusion, and community pride by revitalizing the original structure rather than rebuilding. The façade’s vibrant colors and additional windows create a welcoming, light-filled environment, while the heart of the design—a three-story Learning Commons and Media Center inspired by a tree canopy—connects student levels and fosters social and intellectual growth with its open Learning Stair and walkways.
A new cafeteria with skylights and a commercial kitchen provides healthy food access for the first time, while the gym doubles as a storm shelter and fitness space, promoting wellness. Nestled in a tree-lined neighborhood, the design’s natural colors and wood accents bring the outdoors in, creating a calm, nature-centric feel throughout.
The design celebrates school pride with murals of the eagle mascot and treehouse-inspired collaboration rooms in the Learning Commons, reflecting the community’s identity as a Tree City USA. Art and STEM spaces are thoughtfully integrated, with display areas for student work and two-way glass for STEM projects, alongside a wood wall inscribed with an inspirational quote from Einstein to encourage learning and creativity.
