Integrating security with sustainability for governmental facilities.
1/1
This privately developed 250,000 sf governmental project includes 15 different departments from the Department of Transportation (DOT) with the FAA being the primary tenant. The five-story solution includes administrative offices, green design elements, structured parking, an auditorium, and a cafeteria.
The project is located at the northeast corner of Ilus W. Davis Park in downtown Kansas City and became another important addition to this governmental green space which is anchored by the City Hall building at the south end of the park and a United States District Courthouse at the north end of the park. An exterior expression was developed to project permanence through a combination of long-lasting, high-quality materials complemented by finely detailed passive solar elements to reduce heat loading while creating a stimulating horizontal expression. The building was designed to meet the GSA’s, DOT’s, and Developers goal of creating a professional, security and energy-efficient facility, and allow for flexibility for future applications, growth and changing technology.
