CTA Cermak Station, Chinatown

Under a Job Order Contract (JOC), Wight provided design and construction for improvements at the Cermak Road, Chinatown, CTA Station. Improvements included a new entrance at Archer Avenue, which involved a new escalator to replace a damaged escalator; a new elevator; a new fare collection building at street level; new stairs to the platform; new fare collection rooms at street level; temporary and permanent fare collection equipment; structural modifications to platform support system, and a new enclosure at platform level. Site work included new planters, curbs, and sidewalks; and mechanical, electrical, communication, and signage upgrades. Intricate staging and temporary support systems were required to construct the improvements as platform access and train operations were maintained throughout construction.
