In-depth student input guided the design and shaped the experience of the new University of Chicago Student Wellness Center. With thoughtful design and skillful construction, a new facility was created within an 89-year-old University of Chicago Medical Center courtyard that now welcomes students to a unique new collaborative model that delivers high quality, inclusive care with the highest standards of professionalism and student confidentiality.
Delivered in 40% less time
A highly complex integration of old and new health facilities was delivered in 2.5 years, saving the University 18 months – without disrupting ongoing care or shared utility tie-ins.
Saved $2 million + added scope
The University saved almost $2 million and gained $500,000 in added scope under a guaranteed maximum price agreement with designer-builder Wight & Company.
Integrating old and new
Continuous bands of perimeter skylights are cantilevered to avoid damaging the surrounding historic limestone facades which become interior walls of this visionary glass, steel and wood contemporary building.
